The US Space Force, fact, fiction or both?

In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik and on 28 January 1958, U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Homer A. Boushey, Deputy Director of Air Force Research and Development, speaking before the Aero Club of Washington, put forth the idea that the entity which controled the moon would countrol the earth.

On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress the dramatic and ambitious goal of sending an American safely to the Moon before the end of the decade and the race for control of the moon began.

The interesting thing in my mind about this period in US history is that albeit we were and are to this day the first and only nation to land on and walk upon the moon's surface (multiple times).  Today some 48 years later we are talking about sending people to and establishing a colony on Mars rather than going back to the moon and establishing a Moon base.

Why? What was the race to the moon really all about?

That depends on your perspective! Scientists for example tend to see things one way and the military obviously tends to see the same things in a whole other light.  Science (in theory) attempts to uncover the mysteries of the universe to benefit humanity and the military (in reality) devises ways to weaponize whatever science discovers.

Politicians also have their own way of viewing things and their point of view is from a perspective of how they can utilize both as political capitol! The perfect example of this truth can be seen in how the US brought the former USSR to it's knees during the nuclear arms race. Because the US economy was so strong and our production capabilities so superior to the Russian's, they were literally forced to capitulate to a nuclear arms agreement because they couldn't keep up economically.

I believe that is what the "US Space Force" is actually all about!

The US economy is by far the strongest and most stable economy in the world today and this is the PERFECT time and the perfect economic environment to put pressure on the economies of our enemies. Tariffs and sanctions have been been very effective non lethal weapons used against our enemies in the past, when used wisely, and adding the Space Force to the mix adds further economic pressure to their balance sheets.

I see it as being much like the infamous "Star Wars Defense System" that never was and never came to be. The threat, real or imagined, in and of itself, did the work for us in weakening their economies! Good Job on All Fronts in my opinion anyway
