Submission to the Authorities

Food For Thought

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.


As tyranny (oppressive power; especially : oppressive power exerted by government) becomes more and more prominent in America, Christians are faced with the dilemma of whether or not we are to submit to tyrannical "authorities".

 

(Rom 13:  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (Rom 13:1-2) 


Let every soul be subject to the superior authorities for there is not authority except by under God. Now those which are have been set by under God so that he who is resisting an authority has withstood God's mandate. Now those who have withstood will be getting judgment for themselves, (Rom 13:1-2) (CLV)

 

The Question Here Is: In America, what and or who are the authorities?

In America The United States Constitution is the absolute sovereign authority in the land and it is this supreme document which gives complete power over America, ESPECIALLY OVER ITS GOVERNMENT, to those who ordained and established it, We The People.


Subsequently it is The People who are the actual holders of absolute authority in America.


Unlike any other nation in history the people of the United States of America were given authority over the government, and unlike any other governing document in history the US Constitution gives the people the authority and the means to tear it down if the need should arise.


What Happened?

Somehow America became like Israel and bastardized the original intent and purpose of their founding documents, The Constitution and The 10 Commandments respectively.


 

Personally I find it interesting that the preamble of our constitution establishes The People as the source of the government's authority and that the very First Amendment protects our religious liberty:


Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;



The Question Here?

Do Christians have the scriptural authority to push back when their free exercise of religion or any of our God given rights are prohibited?


I say YES! And this because The People are, by our laws, the highest power in the land, and we have sovereign authority, by law, over what the constitution created just as God has sovereign authority over His creations.


The problem is that as disciples of Jesus Christ we can only go so far in our resistance and remain within our Lord's will, even though the constitution gives The People the means to overthrow a tyrannical government, not excluding a revolution!


 

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world then would my servants fight that I should not be delivered to the Jews but now is my kingdom not from hence. (Joh 18:36)
