Knowing God (Part 2) Does God Repent?

We know that man was created in the image and after the likeness of God. A thing that many of us, myself included, tend to forget and a thing that even more Christians do not understand or accept.

That man was created God-like and shares the same emotions with God .

Now I have heard it said many times in my life that God does not change his mind.

Let's see if that claim lives up to scriptures:

(Jer 18:7-8)  At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

(Joe 2:13)  And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

(Amo 7:3)  The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

(Amo 7:6)  The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

In fact God repented as far back as the beginning of our scriptures:

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Gen 6:5-6)

Here are a few more occurrences for your review:

Exo_32:14; Num_23:19; Deu_32:36; 1Sa_15:11, 1Sa_15:29; 2Sa_24:16; 1Ch_21:15; Psa_106:45, Psa_110:4; Jer_18:8-10, Jer_26:19; Hos_11:8; Jon_3:10; Mal_3:6; Rom_11:29; Heb_6:17-18; Jas_1:17

So you see my brothers and sisters in Christ, God only calls us to do that which He does as Jesus did.

Jesus' entire ministry is based upon repentance. It was focused on the Jews changing the way they were thinking and what they believed about the Father, about the law, and about the kingdom of heaven.

God is jealous and we are jealous. God gets angry we get angry. God is love and commands us to love. God forgives and commands us to forgive. God repents and commands us to repent.

So remember this when theologians try to use their smoke and mirrors to make you believe that God is someone who He is not and that you are someone or something that you are not. God made you in His image (the image of Jesus Christ in the flesh) and after His likeness (all of His emotions). You are His child, He is your Father and He made you like Himself, and because God shares these same temperaments with His creation, and repents from evil thoughts as He commands us to do, He is willing to forgive the sins of man who is created in His likeness when they do the same.

And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor and every man his brother saying know the LORD for they shall all know me from the

least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

(Jer 31:34)

God draws people onto Himself by forgiving their iniquity and forgetting their sins!   Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever because he

delighteth in mercy. He will turn again he will have compassion

upon us he will subdue our iniquities and thou wilt cast

all their sins into the depths of the sea.

(Mic 7:18-19)

God "delights" in mercy and HE Will have compassion on us.

How will God show this compassion? 1) HE WILL TURN AGAIN because He delights in mercy.

2) HE WILL have compassion on us. 3) HE WILL subdue our iniquities! 4) He WILL cast our sins into the depths of the sea and remember them no more.

Why does God do these things for us? Because He created us to worship Him out of love not fear!

Who is a God like unto thee oh God, that you pardoneth iniquity and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage?

Not the god of Systematic Theology! that's for sure
