The serpent was more subtile (‛ârûm - cunning (usually in a bad sense): - crafty, shrewd, crafty, sly, sensible) than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made, save mankind, has already taken a lions share of Christian believers the way of Eve unawares as it was in the Church at Galatia.
The fall of Eve, when you get down to it, was caused by one single thing: Her Lust (the desire of her flesh) - Eve saw that the tree was pleasant to the eyes was good for food, and that it a tree to be desired to make one wise.
But Eve's lust was just symptomatic of a deeper issue, a spiritual issue, an issue of Identity.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Gen 1:26-27)
Mankind had been created in the image of and after the likeness of God. They walked and talked with God, they were given their own kingdom (the Earth) by God, over which they were given dominion over everything that walked or crawled upon it. And they possessed all of the riches on and within the earth as well. Adam and Eve were not gods but they were "God=like" within the realm of their kingdom and subsequently had dominion over the serpent on the earth.
And the serpent knew it!
The enemy also knew that he couldn't force Adam and or Eve to do anything outside of their wills so He used the natural nature of Eve against her.
What was the ultimate desire of Eve? To Be Wise!
And this when she already possessed the wisdom of God by His personal counsel.
What is the chief desire of mankind (generally speaking) to this very day?
For the unsaved (and for many Christians) it is to obtain wisdom. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies which are given from one shepherd and further, by these, my son be admonished of making many books there is no end and much study is a weariness of the flesh. (Ecc 12:11-12)
Much study to gain the wisdom of God is the way of the old testament and of the scribes, Pharisees and lawyers.
How Do New Covenant Kingdom Dwellers Receive Wisdom?
If any of you lack wisdom,
let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and
it shall be given him.
Think About it!
